The Burgert Brothers Photographic Collection presents a unique pictorial record of the commercial, residential and social growth of Tampa Bay and Florida's West coast from the late 1800s to the early 1960s. Nearly 15,000 images in this collection chronicle the history of the Tampa Bay area as it faced wars, natural disasters, and economic booms and busts.
The Development Committee of the Friends of the Library of Tampa-Hillsborough County, Inc., a 501c3 organization dedicated to raising funds for our libraries, has created a historic reference on Tampa, Hillsborough County, and the library system in the form of a perpetual calendar called Treasures. The Treasures calendar celebrates the 100th anniversary of the first public library in Tampa/Hillsborough County, the West Tampa Library. The calendars are spiral bound and contain 126 pages featuring 52 historical black and white photographs from the Burgert Brothers Collection. The calendars sell for $15 each. A set of 10 note cards featuring Burgert Brothers photographs are also available for $5 each.
The calendars and note cards are sold at most branch libraries, as well as many community-focused local retailers including Inkwood Books, the Henry B. Plant Museum, and the Tampa Museum of Art. They can also be obtained by calling the Friends of the Library Office at 813-273-3616.
